MBTA bus driver charged after crash on Mass. Pike overpass

Posted: Updated:
NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) - The driver behind the wheel of Sunday's MBTA bus accident in Newton has been cited for speeding, operating to endanger and impeded operation according to sources.

Sources tell 7News investigators were trying to get access to the Shanna Shaw's cell phone to see whether she was using it while operating the bus.

Transit police are also seeking to charge Shaw with obstruction of justice for allegedly interfering with the investigation.

The District Attorney is assisting in the investigation, since only a DA's office can obtain a search warrant for a person's cell phone records.

Records from the RMV indicate Shaw has had several speeding tickets and at-fault crashes in her personal vehicle.

Seven people were hospitalized after the crash with non-life threatening injuries.
