California boy attacked by dog, saved by cat

Posted: Updated:
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (WHDH) - It was three seconds of terror four-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo of Bakersfield, California. His leg in the jaws of a neighbor's dog, when his cat, Tara, charged in.

A home security camera captured Jeremy riding his bike in front of his home Tuesday. The neighbor's dog was lurking behind the fence. He sees Jeremy behind the SUV and in a flash, he's on the attack, pouncing of Jeremy's leg.

"I didn't even realize the dog had my son by his legs. I figured he had his pants or something else," said Erika Triantafilo, Jeremy's mother.

Mom, Erika, was only feet away.

"It just happened so fast. Tara came out of nowhere. I didn't even really know what had happened until afterwards when my husband showed me our surveillance video and said "our cat saved our son," said Erika.

Tara chased the dog all the way off the property.

Jeremy had to get a few stitches for his leg, but he's doing fine and so is his best friend.

"It was truly amazing. She's my hero," said Jeremy.

Erika says her neighbors voluntarily had their dog quarantined with animal control.
