Twin sisters cross finish line together in Illinois

Posted: Updated:
Chloe and Claire Gruenke, 13-year-old twins, are very close.

The middle school sisters spent the weekend competing an Illinois state track meet.

“I felt something pull and pop in my thigh and then around the second lap it hurt and I couldn't go anymore and I fell to the ground,” Chloe said.

Then something amazing happened.

“Claire came up behind me and put me on her back and helped me finish,” Chloe said.

And they finished together. Claire carried her sister for 370 of the 400 meters left in the race. She says what she did for her sister has meaning.

“Love and sportsmanship, even if you lose and help somebody it’s still worth it. The energy from the crowd made me stronger,” Claire said.

And the grownups are not surprised.

“It was pretty neat everyone in the crowd was standing up giving a standing ovation,” Doug Gruenke said.

They may have come in last, but they won the hearts of everyone who watched a special moment between sisters play out on the field.

This isn't the first time they've helped each other out, earlier this month, Claire let Chloe beat her in a race, so she could qualify for state too.
