Marshfield Police say man sexually assaulted teen

MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) -

Police in Marshfield have arrested a man they believe sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl after picking her up on the side of the road.

Joseph Regan, 49, allegedly picked up the girl around midnight on Route 139 in Marshfield Thursday, May 8. Police said he then took her back to his house on Ferry Street, gave her alcohol and sexually assaulted her. Police say Regan and the victim did not know each other.

Officials are concerned this teen may not have been his first victim because police say he works between children ages 10-19 as a recovery specialist for Volunteers of America.

"We do consider him a very dangerous sexual predator. With access to children like that we're concerned there may be previous victims,” Marshfield Police Lt. Arthur Shaw said.

Regan turned himself into the Marshfield Police with his attorney after the teenage girl told someone who reported the crime to police.

Neighbors said they didn't speak to Regan or didn't know him all that well.

"Well nothing really shocks me, I didn't really know him. He waves at me I wave back at him that's all I really know of him,” one woman said.

Police are asking anyone else who may have been a victim to come forward and speak with authorities.
