8-year-old Florida girl helps mom deliver baby

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA BAY, Fla. (WHDH) - An 8-year-old girl will always remember the day her baby brother was born, little Jazmine's mom's water broke at home and she couldn't make it to the hospital.

She calmly called for help but ended up making the big delivery all by herself.

All births are memorable but Joseph James Snyder's birth became a family affair.

“I was in the bathroom and my water broke and I yelled for her. ‘Jazmine grab the cordless phone. Dial 911,’” Krystle Garcia said.
Jazmine called for help.

“I was freaking out. I am like, I am home with my eight year old daughter, you know. Even if I called somebody they are not going to come quick enough. It was, it happened so fast,” Garcia said.

Two weeks early; all 5-pounds 10-ounces of little Joseph couldn't wait.

“They told me to get lots of towels and blankets,” Jazmine said.

Just 13 minutes after that 911 call by Jazmine started and before the paramedics could arrive joseph made his appearance.

“She definitely stayed calm when she needed to, especially, I was hysterical,” Garcia said.

Big sister helped her little brother, by bringing him into the world.

Paramedics arrived shortly after the baby's birth and brought the family to the hospital.

Both mom and baby are doing fine.
