Plainville crash victim describes destructive scene

PLAINVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - A wrong-way driver barreled towards Nancy Hanley's SUV on I-495 in Plainville, and she said it was tough to get the image out of her mind.

"It happened so fast. I think we might have been the third car he hit," she said.

The vehicle hit a total of five cars on the highway Sunday night.

State police said a 39-year-old Randolph man driving a 2006 Honda was killed.

Witnesses said he was the one driving north in the southbound lanes.

Rescue crews wrestled with multiple injuries.

"The had a couple broken arms, a broken leg," said Deputy Robert Skinner of the Plainville Fire Department.

Many of the injured were headed home from Mother's Day celebrations when the day transformed into destruction. Emergency responders said it was sheer luck that no one else was killed.
