2nd MERS patient traveled through Logan Airport

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Health officials are working to contact 500 people who might have been exposed to the MERS virus when a man who was diagnosed with the disease flew from Saudi Arabia to Orlando.

The man traveled through several airports on May 1 including Logan airport between stops in London and Atlanta.

According to health officials the man got sick on several of the flights and on May 8 went to the emergency room.

“It’s important to remember that MERS is not easily transmitted. Most of the cases that have been transmitted have been from people who are very, very ill with the disease and in the healthcare setting. That is not the case with this individual who flew through Logan,” Boston Public Health Commissioner Anita Barry said.

This is the second confirmed case of MERS in the United States.
