Illegal immigrant on trial for dragging death in Milford

Posted: Updated:
MILFORD, Mass. (WHDH) - Nicholas Dutan-Guaman appeared in Worcester superior court Monday, accused of dragging a Milford man to death in 2011.

Dutan-Guaman, an illegal immigrant who has been in the country for about a dozen years, does not speak English and listened to testimony through an interpreter.

“I understand nothing,” he said through an interpreter when the judge asked about his English comprehension.

Prosecutors say Dutan-Guaman was driving his truck drunk when he was involved in a crash with motorcycle rider Matthew Denice.

Dutan-Guaman then allegedly dragged Denice’s body for half a mile as witnesses tried to stop him by yelling at him and banging on the truck.

“What Mr. Dutan-Guaman did was to try to leave from a chaotic scene not knowing what was going on under his vehicle,” his attorney said.

During the first day of the trial a 911 call in which Dutan-Guaman's 9-year-old nephew called police to report that the suspect had left the house driving drunk.

Along with the charge of motor vehicle homicide Dutan-Guaman is also charged with child endangerment because his 6-year-old son was reportedly in the back seat of the truck.
