Uxbridge church allegedly ripped off by couple

Posted: Updated:
UXBRIDGE, Mass. (WHDH) - Police in Uxbridge are warning people about a couple they say ripped off a local church in April.

The male and female, identified as Laura Ryan, 28, and Joseph Viscusi, 57, allegedly convinced members of Saint Vincent de Paul, affiliated with St. Mary's Church, that they were a couple in need. Officials say Viscusi told people that he needed money to help with burial costs, travel expenses, child assistance and other needs.

The church provided assistance, but when checking the information given to them, they were unable to locate the couple by the addresses they had given them.

The couple was last seen operating a red or maroon sedan, possibly a Ford and most likely with New York license plates.

Police say the couple has done similar things at churches in New Jersey and in other areas of the Northeast.

There are currently active warrants for both parties involved. If you have any information regarding these people or have been a victim of this couple, please contact the Uxbridge Police Department immediately at ( 508)278-7755.
