Volunteers help to expand Middleboro family's home

MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -
The Middleboro community came together on Saturday to help a family that had just taken in two kids when they already had four kids of their own.

Back in October, 35-year-old single mother of two Robin Daggett passed away. She was raising 14-year-old Gardo and 2-year-old Aliah alone because five months earlier, her husband died.

With nowhere to go, the two children were taken in by their aunt and uncle. Their 1,000-square-foot house became a tight squeeze for them and the now six children they were caring for.

Tom White, a family friend and an electrician by trade, was able to organize a few friends in the construction business to donate time and materials to expand the home.

"It's God's work and that's what we're trying to do here," said one volunteer.

More than 100 volunteers and several local companies donated their time and effort to help the family. Work began last weekend and people hope that it will be done in a few weeks.

When the project is finished, the work done is estimated to cost about $90,000.
