Dogs fend off bear from backyard bird feeder

Posted: Updated:
BOW, N.H. (WHDH) - When Kelly Hebert saw her two dogs bolt off their deck and toward a black bear she was worried for their safety.

“Obviously, I panicked, ran over thinking they'd be dead,” she said.

But they weren’t dead, they were having a stare down with the bear and soon they chased it off.

“Luckily for us, the bear was a forgiving bear and decided to go on its merry way, instead of having our dogs for dinner,” Hebert said.

Hebert’s two bulldogs, Lola and Comma, are very friendly but when the bear came in to their yard and started eating from a bird feeder they reacted.

“They know when to lay down the hammer,” Hebert’s son said.

The Heberts have a game camera mounted in their yard to capture wildlife. They say they’ve seen moose, deer and bears before, but this is the first time the dogs responded.
