SAUGUS, Mass. (WHDH) -
A pastor said it was divine intervention that stopped a 10-foot boulder from smashing through the wall of a church.
Crews were working behind the church clearing land to build a charter school.
After one blast, a giant rock rolled toward the church and stopped just inches away from the building.
“They called down and said ‘in 5 seconds the blast goes off,’ so in 5 seconds the blast went off. It went good but then all of a sudden that big huge boulder rolled out from under the blasting mats, rolled over the handicap ramp, over the rolling and stopped just a foot from the building,” said Rick Leclair, the pastor and one of the construction workers.
Leclair and the rest of the crew spent time Friday afternoon breaking up the boulder nearby but they took extra care to cover the windows in case pieces chip off.
