Two circus performers could not move legs after fall

Posted: Updated:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WHDH) - Wednesday afternoon doctors updated the public about the status of the seven circus performers who remain in the hospital after a 25-foot fall Saturday night.

“We had one person who had a true life threatening emergency because she had a major abdominal injury and a major liver laceration and that could claim her life,” Dr. David Harrington said.

A total of nine patients were taken to Rhode Island Hospital following the event, eight female acrobats who fell and one male who was on the ground and hit.

“At least two of the patients were significant enough that they were not moving their legs when they first came up. To varying degrees there has been a little bit of improvement in one or two of those patients. But we won’t know what the ultimate recovery will be for close to a year,” Dr. Adetokunbo Oyelese said.

Two of the patients have been released from the hospital including one acrobat who said she wants to get back to work.
