Firefighters bring woman back to life after heart attack

CANTON, Mass. (WHDH) -

Jessica Bolt was planning on enjoying the fights at the Irish Cultural Center Saturday night when she died for a short amount of time.

Bolt suffered a heart attack but thankfully firefighters from several communities were there with her in Canton to bring her back.

“She couldn’t have died in a better spot she really couldn’t have; to have all of us there within 15 seconds,” Peter Denneno, a Stoughton Firefighter said.

West Bridgewater Firefighter Paul McCafferty was sitting right behind her when he noticed something wasn’t right.

“She’s sitting in a chair her heads rolled up, she’s unconscious. At first I checked for pulse and didn’t feel one,” McCafferty said.

While others performed CPR McCafferty grabbed a defibrillator.

“We shocked her, heard a couple of gasps, continued CPR for another few minutes. Another shock, by that time she’s actually breathing on her own,” he said.

Bolt said last year she was on her way to the Boston Marathon finish line when the bombs went off making this her second narrow escape from death.

“If I was at home there’s no telling what would have happened but I happened to go to a boxing match where a bunch of firefighters were sitting,” she said.

Firefighters said it's just something they're wired to do.

“It really is automatic you just see somebody who is hurt and you go down, evaluate the situation and help them the best you can,” Denneno said.

Bolt is scheduled to have heart surgery Wednesday.
