MBTA to pilot bus driver protection barrier

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - The MBTA is protecting drivers with new additions to a prototype bus.

The bus has a protective barrier to help keep operators safe from an attack.

Officials say there were 43 assaults on bus operators last year and the new barriers will help to keep everyone safe

"I feel safe. I can still do my job here as far as helping the passengers out. I can answer questions, and can still continue driving as if it wasn’t there," one driver said.

Officials say the pilot program for the new barricade will last three months.
