PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WHDH) -
Federal prosecutors are joining the investigation into what caused a frightening fall at the circus over the weekend.
Nine people were hurt and eight are still in the hospital.
Family members say the performers are focused on recovering and aren’t thinking about returning to the big top yet.
“We haven't discussed that with her yet because that is not important right now. The important thing is to recover and to be in shape just to do anything,” Roiter Neves, the father of 24-year-old Widny Neves, said
Eight performers fell when a carabiner failed during the performance.
One of the first responders said he spoke with a performer on the ground.
“Her legs regained some of their feeling, so she screamed ‘my legs hurt’ I said ‘that’s good, because that means that you have some feeling down there,” Bruce Quinn said.
