Kristen Merlin hopes to create a moment Monday night

LOS ANGELES (WHDH) - There are eight contestants left on NBC’s “The Voice” but on Tuesday three of them will be saying goodbye.

Kristen Merlin, a country singer from Hanson, Mass. has stood out for her vocals throughout the competition, but she said the further into the competition she gets, the more her nerves get her.

“I’m nervous as anything. Every time I take the stage every each round going forward is a little more nerve wracking. It’s sad to know that three go home and five stay,” Merlin said.

Merlin changed it up for her top ten performance singing Passenger’s “Let Her Go” but she said for the top 8 song she’s back to country.

“Shakira and I put our heads together and we wanted to make a heartfelt moment. For me this song has meaning for a couple of different reasons,” she said.

You can watch “The Voice” performances Monday nights on 7NBC from 8 to 11 p.m. and the results shows Tuesday nights from 8 to 9 p.m.
