Woman survives 5 days after Colorado highway crash

Posted: Updated:
FAIRPLAY, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado woman is recovering after being stranded in her car for five days after crashing off a rural highway southwest of Denver.

Passersby who happened to stop Sunday on scenic U.S. Highway 285 near Fairplay spotted the car about 80 feet below in an aspen grove. They hiked down to the vehicle and called authorities.

The Park County Sheriff's Office says 43-year-old Kristin Hopkins was found inside her flipped car conscious but extremely dehydrated and critically injured.

Hopkins was reported missing in suburban Denver on Tuesday, the same day the Colorado State Patrol says her car went off the right side of the road on a curve.

She was last seen leaving work April 27.

U.S. 285 runs through the scenic South Park area, a valley of sprawling ranchland surrounded by mountains.
