Calif. thieves steal atm in less than 2 minutes

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NBC) - A dash for cash in California when a group of thieves carries an ATM out of a store.

Police say the suspects behind the smash and grab have done the same thing at least three times in the last two weeks.

Surveillance video shows three men break into a store, use a jack to pry the ATM off the floor then pick it up and haul it off in their van.

It takes them less than 70 seconds.

Sacramento police believe the trio's hit again and again.

"When I came here in the morning the ATM was, the floor was broke, the tile was broken, I don't know how they did it,” Albaro Lopez, one of the store owners, said

The surveillance video shows exactly how they're doing it.

Now police hope the video helps them track down the criminals who are tied to at least three ATM thefts in the last two weeks.

It was a quick scam for a small amount of money the store owner says.

"There's not a lot of money in this ATM it was like $700,” he said.

The ATM was found emptied out nearby.
