Saint John Paul II honored in Dorchester

Posted: Updated:
DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) - A mass honoring the canonization of Saint John Paul II was held in Dorchester Thursday.

Pews filled with community members celebrating the historic event.

Prayers were offered in several different languages and a prayer chain created by the students at the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy was presented.

Many priests attended the service and talked about the former pope's visit to Boston.

“He brought such excitement to the city of Boston. It truly was a sign of hope that the pope came here and he said he loved Boston very, very much,” Episcopal Vicar Jim Flavin said.

Eight hundred students from the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy attended the service.
