Thieves clean out Webster food bank

Posted: Updated:
WEBSTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- - When workers opened the doors to the Webster-Dudley Food Share on Thursday, they found empty shelves and cleared-out boxes.

Police said that overnight someone went into the basement of the United Church of Christ where the food pantry is located and took tons of food intended for needy families, mostly children.

Twice a week, 50-60 families come to the food pantry for help, which most troubles the director to think that someone felt the need to steal free food.

"It's sad they think they had to do that. What circumstances they have they feel they have to steal," said Donna Farrow, director.

Despite the disheartening deed of some thieves, Farrow focused instead on the generosity of the community that was already working to fill the shelves.

Those who want to donate can bring non-perishable goods to the Webster Police Department at 57 Thompson Rd, Webster.
