EMT reunites with child he delivered five years ago

BOSTON (WHDH) - The last time EMT Chris Mancuso saw Eva Germain, he was delivering her.

"I just remember realizing we weren't going to make it to the hospital," said Carrie Coughlin Germain, Eva's mother.

Germain said her husband called an ambulance to take her to have her baby five years ago, and Mancuso arrived. With no other option, he delivered her baby in their fourth-story South Boston walk-up.

It also happened to be Mancuso's birthday, April 29, an occasion he shared with the new mom as they arrived at the hospital.

"I was a little grumpy, obviously, a little grouchy. And so I said, 'prove it,'" Germain said.

She apologized for that on Thursday.

"I am sorry I carded you," she said.

The three have not seen each other since then, until their most recent birthday: his 40th, her fifth.

As part of their birthday celebration, Eva and Mancuso exchanged presents.
