A mother is going to have quite a story to tell her son after she gave birth to him behind a gas station in Groton Tuesday night.
The father of the child was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher and helped with the delivery, which happened in the parking lot behind the Prime Energy on Boston Road.
“When she said ‘I need to push, you need to catch the baby’ I just threw my phone down and bent down and I saw his head coming out and I pulled and out he came," Andrew Woodbury, the baby's father, said.
Surveillance cameras were able to capture the birth, along with EMTs transporting the mother after the birth.
"Things were really progressing pretty quickly, at one point he put the phone down and by the time he picked back up he had delivered the baby,” dispatcher Sam Welch said.
The mother and baby are recovering at Emerson Hospital.
“This is much nicer and less stressful than having everybody poking at us and checking me. There was no monitoring and no IVs and that is what I wanted for my birth,” Ashley Knight, the baby's mother, said.
A spokesperson from the hospital confirmed that the baby's name is Adam Woodbury. He came in at 8 pounds and 20 ounces.
