Malden student finalist in Google Doodle competition

MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) - A student at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden is a finalist in the Doodle 4 Google competition.

Isabel Waller, a senior at Mystic Valley, entered her doodle "Beauty from Garbage" into the 7th annual competition and was chosen as the Massachusetts finalist.

A team from Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. visited the school and made the announcement in a ceremony at a school assembly Tuesday morning.

One student from each of the 50 states was chosen as a finalist. Users can visit the competition homepage to vote for their favorite design, which will appear on Google's homepage. The winner will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship and the winner's school will receive a $50,000 Google for Education grant.

Voting will close on May 9. The winner will be announced in a ceremony in Mountain View on May 21.
