DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -
Mayor Marty Walsh announced a major neighborhood investment today in Dorchester.
The $3 million project will help boost public safety while revitalizing the storefronts in Upham’s Corner.
Twenty new street lights will be installed, the strand theatre will get a $1 million facelift, and there will be a new arts and culture initiative.
Mayor Walsh says the investments will show the true potential of the area.
"Upham’s Corner is a part of Boston’s history it’s an economic engine, an educational hub, a gathering place for arts and community. So we’re taking action finally to realize the full potential of this neighborhood for the people of this city,” he said.
The investment comes only weeks after Mayor Walsh announced an increase in funding for Boston’s 20 main street districts.
