Ga. pastor uses martial arts to preach

Posted: Updated:
HIRAM, Ga. (NBC) - You might not think there's any relationship between religion and fighting, but one Georgia pastor is using mixed martial arts to attract people to his church.

"It's a metaphor. Fight for your marriage. Fight for your children. You know, fight for the things that really matter in life. And so, that's what we're trying to say. there's lots of things that happen in life that we have to fight for," said Steve Flockhart, church pastor at New Season Church.

In between punches and kicks at the fight club, the message of faith was tailored specifically to about 400 men who attended.

"Because a changed man can change everything. You know, a changed man can change his relationship with his wife, his relationship with his children, his relationship with his friends, his work environment," said Brant Griewisch, a church member.

While not everyone in Hiram approves of this event, the church believes it has all the approval it needs.

"What would Jesus say? I think Jesus would say: 'This is an amazing event and it's gonna be awesome,'" Flockhart said.
