Quincy firefighter delivers, performs CPR on newborn

Posted: Updated:
QUINCY, Mass. (WHDH) - A new baby came as a special deliver for a woman and her husband in Quincy thanks to the local fire department.

The mother was across the street from the fire station when she started giving birth.

A cab driver called and firefighter Shawn Darcy went to help the woman deliver her new baby.

But all wasn’t well, Darcy noticed the baby wasn’t breathing so he immediately went into rescue mode.

“The baby wasn’t breathing so I had to suction the nose, suction the mouth then do some vigorous stimulation. She let out a beautiful cry. Got the baby breathing and crying, then we were able to clamp the chord and that’s when the paramedics showed up,” Darcy said.

The baby, mother and father were all taken to a Boston hospital where they are all doing well.
