Family heartbroken after pet killed by coyote

QUINCY, Mass. (WHDH) -

Margie Cristiani is heartbroken, she still can't escape the image of her 13-year-old Chihuahua Cheech being attacked and killed Wednesday night by a coyote.

“He came around with the dog in his mouth. That image will stay in my mind forever,” she said.

It was almost midnight and she let Cheech out into their fenced in yard in Quincy.

The family says the coyote took her dog up and over the fence and there was nothing she could do.

“He was my buddy, my sidekick. He was really good to my mom. I got him after my father passed away so she would have companionship,” Anthony Cristiani said.

Cheech wasn't just a pet, but part of their family.

“It's like I lost a best friend,” Margie said.

They're devastated that he was killed so savagely.

“I thought he'd die old with us never thought he die a horrific death,” Anthony said.

The Cristianis say city officials told them the coyotes can't be removed, but they worry that in this populated neighborhood the wild animals are putting other pets and children in danger.
