Lynn teenager in court on murder charges

Posted: Updated:
Fifteen-year-old Kevin Sanchez was charged with murder even though prosecutors say someone else pulled the trigger.

Police say on April 16 Sanchez and two friends brought a sawed-off shotgun into a Lynn apartment building and tried to rob a man, but he fought back.

“During the armed robbery one of the targets who was legally licensed to carry a gun in Massachusetts was able to reach his firearm and defend himself,” Essex County Prosecutor Kate MacDougal said.

Eighteen-year-old Amoy Blake was killed, now his accomplices in the robbery are being charged with his murder.

Prosecutors say because Blake died while allegedly committing a felony, other suspects in that crime can be held responsible for his death.

“With respect to Mr. Sanchez there is evidence that he participated in the planning of this armed robbery, that he was standing by ready and willing to assist his friends,” MacDougal said.

Sanchez' mother leaned on other people in court as prosecutors laid out the case her against son including that the 15-year-old suspected gang member threatened witnesses.

“This defendant, we have reason to believe, has already engaged in behavior on Facebook that is threatening to witnesses of this case over the course of the last couple of days, including posting the address of one of the witnesses on his Facebook page,” MacDougal said.
