Woman assaulted on Beacon Street in Somerville

Posted: Updated:
SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - Somerville Police are investigating a sexual attack that occurred early Monday morning.

A Harvard University student had just departed the Porter Square T station and was walking alone on Beacon Street in Somerville around 1:20 a.m. when a man grabbed her. She told police she was pulled by the arm into an alley and assaulted. She screamed and was able to escape, but she was unable to get a good view of her attacker.

Police are warning women who walk through the area at night to be aware, stay in groups and not walk with headphones in.

The incident is similar to an assault reported in Cambridge last week where a woman was assaulted near the Porter Square T station.

Harvard University Police also sent out an alert because a lot of students live in the area of the attack.

If anybody has any information on either case they are asked to contact Somerville Police at (617) 625-1600, extension 7610.
