Red Sox fans ready to boo Jacoby Ellsbury

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - When the Red Sox faced off against the New York Yankees Tuesday night they saw a familiar face in an unfamiliar uniform.

Jacoby Ellsbury made his debut wearing pinstripes at Fenway in front of a crowd that was ready to give him the cold shoulder.

“I’m definitely going to boo him,” one fan said outside the park.

Ellsbury was the first batter to take the plate during the game.

The all-star outfielder signed with the Yankees this winter, not long after helping the Red Sox win the World Series.

The same sox fans who cheered for Jacoby in October are now calling him a traitor.

Ellsbury spoke Tuesday afternoon before taking the field at Fenway in pinstripes; he thanked Boston for his time here.

“A third of my life, you know, I spent as part of this organization. So you know, definitely grateful for everything I've received from them,” he said.
