BOSTON (WHDH) -

She prefers heels, but on this marathon Monday Heather Abbott had a new prosthetic; one that allowed her to run the through the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

“I ran the last half mile, I had to stop and walk because my nerves got the best of me we ran it together,” Abbott said.

Abbott wasn't alone on Boylston Street.

Celeste Corcoran, who lost both legs in last year’s bombing, and her daughter Sydney, who was also seriously hurt, finished the race with Celeste's sister.

A short jog that speaks volumes about all their resilience.

“What a long way we've come the last year,” Abbott said.

Former patriot Joe Andruzzi spent most of the day with Abbott, they both knew they'd come back to the same spot this Patriots Day.

“It’s awesome to be back, there’s no place I'd rather be today, back to finish what we started,” he said.

Andruzzi was a large vocal presence out there, he even embraced his former Pats teammate Tedy Bruschi right before Bruschi finished.

This Boston Marathon was about taking back the finish line, no matter the obstacles.

“It was a great feeling, I wish I could've run some more, it was terrific,” Abbott said.
