VizSAFE app to keep close eye on marathon safety

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - A new smartphone app will help police keep a close eye on safety at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The free app is called VizSAFE and it allows anyone with a smartphone or tablet to take pictures or video of anything suspicious.

"I think having that capability to take a photograph of the suspicious item send it through the app to the state police to Boston Police Department and other law enforcement agencies and the direct link to law enforcement to the app is very valuable," said 7News security expert Rick Deslauriers.

Users can anonymously report issues and send alerts to family or friends.

Police have already set up 7,000 cameras for the marathon but they say the app will help them crowd source even more.

Visit the VizSAFE website for more information on where to get the app.
