Father of missing Fitchburg boy making funeral arrangements

FITCHBURG, Mass. (WHDH) - The father of a missing boy whose body was found off Interstate 190 appeared in Fitchburg on Sunday to help make funeral arrangements.

Jose Oliver, who is from Connecticut, said that he was crushed when the Medical examiner called to say his son, Jeremiah Oliver, had been identified.

"There will never be closure. How can there be? He was only 5 years old. He didn't get to enjoy life," Oliver said.

Oliver said that he will be burying his son in Worcester. When asked why not Fitchburg, he said that the town brings too much pain and that he wants to put it behind him.

The father released a balloon at the Fitchburg memorial where mourners have been gathering for months hoping that the 5-year-old would be found alive.

Investigators still won't confirm what led police to the boy's body, but Oliver said that he thinks it was placed there recently.

"I know that my son wasn't there for no six months on Route 190. I believe that he got placed there couple of days ago."
The boy was last seen by relatives in September but wasn't reported missing until December.

Jeremiah's mother, Elsa Oliver, pleaded not guilty in March to charges including kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and reckless endangerment. Her boyfriend, Alberto Sierra, pleaded not guilty to similar charges.

There is no word from the District Attorney about increased charges. This is now a homicide investigation.
