Boston EMS team running in marathon

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Among the thousands of people running tomorrow will be a team from Boston EMS that jumped into action at the Boston Marathon finish line last year.

Walter Dunbar and Sharon Efstathiou were stationed near the course.

"When the bombs went off our whole reality changed," said

"It was just crazy how many patients were injured and hurt and they were all just calm, and waited for their turn," said Efstathiou.

More than 130 people that were put into ambulances and taken to nearby hospitals survived and their recoveries only motivated the responders more.

"I was proud, I was really proud to wear this uniform that day," said Efstathiou.

"They're dancing, skiing, we see them doing runs, it's amazing," said Dunbar.

Some of the paramedics are experienced in marathon running. Others like Dunbar have never run. However, they all make up the Boston EMS team.

"It's good to know, running the marathon, if something happens to me and I do get sick, I have Boston EMS behind me," said Efstathiou.
