Mourners react to discovery of body in Sterling

FITCHBURG, Mass. (WHDH) - The uncle of missing 5-year-old Jeremiah Oliver collapsed and others mourned at a Fitchburg memorial on Friday after hearing news that officials might have found the boy's body.

People gathered at a makeshift memorial, which people have been visiting since December, when Jeremiah Oliver was reported missing.

Miguel Fleitas put in over 1,000 hours on the ground searching for the boy.

"My team and I spent searching a long time for Jeremiah. I have held my emotions inside me, not letting it affect me until we find him," Fleitas said.

Candles burned and a moment of silence was held among supporters.

"God bless that little boy and I know he is at peace now and we're glad they found him," said Henry Clifford, a veteran who has been paying his respects every day since Oliver was reported missing.

Residents said that this closes one chapter and opens another. Now they can focus on the legal system.

Worcester officials said that a body consistent with the height and weight of Jeremiah Oliver was found, but they won't be able to confirm identification until after an autopsy.

Officials say the uncle is expected to be okay after collapsing.
