Kids get surprise from soldier dad at Medieval Times

Posted: Updated:
LYNDHURST, N.J. (NBC) - A New Jersey soldier who had not seen his kids in months gave them a big surprise at Medieval Times.

10-year-old Troy and 7-year-old Alayna were watching the Young Knights show unaware that their dad, Staff Sgt. Deavin Lee, was one of the performers.

Lee returned to New Jersey from Afghanistan, his sixth deployment in nine years.

When Lee chose the two kids as the "winners" among the young knights, they were surprised to find that their dad, with a little help from their mother, had orchestrated the whole thing.

"I couldn't believe he was here. He was supposed to come on Saturday," Troy said.

"You can't really see through this helmet too well so I was hoping I picked the right two kids. Just to see their face they had no clue what just happened," Lee said.

Mother Shivonne Probeck admitted the kids had high expectations for the homecoming.

"They've seen one of our friends in the middle of a giants game. So there's some pretty big stuff they know people have done," Probeck said.

Lee said he has around three months to enjoy at home before he could possibly be deployed again.
