UNDATED (WHDH) - An associate of former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez was arrested in Florida Wednesday night on charges in connection with a gun trafficking investigation related to the Odin Lloyd murder.

Oscar Hernandez, Jr., 23, has been charged with obstruction of justice, witness tampering and lying to a federal grand jury related to the investigation of the June 2013 North Attleboro homicide.

The arrest was made in connection with a gun trafficking investigation between Florida and Massachusetts.

Three firearms recovered in the North Attleboro murder investigation are believed to be tied to this trafficking scheme, as they were purchased in Florida within nine days of each other. Some or all of the weapons were shipped to Massachusetts in a Toyota Camry.

Hernandez allegedly tried to influence the testimony of the man who sold the car and lied about his role in the buying and shipping of the car.

The murder mentioned in the court documents took place on the same day as the Odin Lloyd murder, but his name is not specifically mentioned.

If convicted, Hernandez faces up to 20 years in prison on witness tampering charges, up to 10 years on obstruction charges and up to five for false testimony.

He appeared in U.S. District Court in Orlando on Thursday and will be detained pending transport to Massachusetts to face charges at a later date.

Aaron Hernandez and two associates are charged in the June 17 shooting death of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who was found dead about a mile from Aaron Hernandez's home
