MBTA inspector caught in lewd act while on duty

DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -

A 60-year-old MBTA bus inspector appeared in court on Wednesday after he was caught engaging in a lewd and lascivious act in a car while on duty.

Stephen Dwyer was spotted by Boston Police sitting in his vehicle at the Ashmont T station with a woman Tuesday at around 1:00 p.m. On closer observation, they were described as engaging in sexual activity.

This was in full view of a coffee shop across the street from the station.

"We have children all through here. This is a very highly public area, as you see, so we have to have something done about that. That's not cool," said Demond Perry, a customer at the coffee shop.

According to the police report, when approached by officers, the woman stepped out of the vehicle and said "I'm not a prostitute." She said she had known Dwyer for a couple of years. Dwyer told police that they were having sex because "she needed money for her hair."

Dwyer told police that what he was doing "was stupid."

Police also uncovered Oxycodone and Viagra pills in the vehicle for which Dwyer did not have a prescription for.

Dwyer was charged with possession of a class E drug, solicitation for prostitution and committing a lewd and lascivious act.

He appeared in court and was ordered held on $100 cash bail. He will be back in court for another hearing next month.

Dwyer, who has been an MBTA employee for 26 years, was suspended from his position with pay. He is facing the possibility of more severe discipline.

The woman was also charged with prostitution and was released from custody.
