MBTA to hold hearing on proposed fare hikes

Posted: Updated:
BRAINTREE, Mass. (WHDH) -

Wednesday night is your chance to sound off about proposed fare hikes on the MBTA.

The MBTA will hold a public hearing at night at the Braintree Town Hall, one of several planned across the state this month. They want to increase fares by 5 percent starting in July.

They will also unveil 40 new environmentally friendly commuter rail locomotives at North Station on Wednesday. The trains will be tested before being put in service, replacing older equipment.

The new locomotives are also much more fuel efficient and each one is expected to save the MBTA $1 million per year in fuel costs.
