Boston Marathon finish line in place for memorials

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - A week before the Boston Marathon crews spent several hours placing down the official finish line decal.

The decal was placed down earlier than usual so that those attending and holding memorials can experience the new decal throughout the week.
“It's such a tribute to the people that were injured, and the people who passed, it’s such a great event. We’re just proud to be here,” Attavio Bolognese, the owner of Accurate Graphics said.

Accurate Graphics has been in charge of laying down and removing the decal for more than a decade, but this year, it's a new bandage over still open wounds.

“Usually we take it down the day after, but we had to wait another week, we had to check in with the FBI. We had booties on and gloves. We approached the finish line and we went to take it off, and you could see the blood splatterings and it was difficult. It was an eerie feeling. It affected everybody,” Bolognese said.

New to the logo this year are two hearts, with Boston written inside.

“This is a very special marathon this year after what happened last year. It definitely means a lot to me, putting it down this year. I’m very proud to be putting it down,” Anthony Bisenti said.
