Hundreds gather to support young Salem boy with cancer

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, Mass. (WHDH) - Hundreds of people gathered at the Salem Common Sunday to show support for a young boy battling cancer.

The community came together for Mason Silva, a 1-year-old boy diagnosed with leukemia.

Supporters sold "Mason Strong" T-shirts and bracelets to raise money for the family. A brief prayer service was also held to show the family that they are not alone.

"It's a way to get behind the family and show our compassion and support and stand 'Mason Strong' together," said Corrine Steller, a friend of the Silva family.

Mason remains in the hospital, but friends of the family say they were overwhelmed by the support.
