Coolest locaitons today turn into the warmest locations tomorrow.
Tuesday afternoon showers turns to a soaking rain overnight. 1-1.5" of rain by daybreak Wednesday. The rain is over by the morning commute.
Much cooler weather for the second half of the week coming up.
New England weather certainly can throw us a few challenges, and today, the temperatures were all over the place. As a few morning showers rode through along a front, that front slipped south a bit, allowing winds to turn northeast and hold temps in the 40s and 50s for many near and north of the Mass Pike through the early afternoon. As that front pushed back north, winds went south, and low 50s turned to near 70 through many of the western suburbs. That meant we went from jacket to t-shirt weather within a couple hours. Unfortunately that front struggled to push through much of the North Shore and Merrimack Valley so temps there held in the 50s, well below the forecasted 60s there. At one point, the numbers ranged from the upper 40s along the Seacoast of NH to the lower 70s in many towns west of Route 128!
Overnight, a southerly breeze imports higher dew points, allowing areas of fog and patchy mist/drizzle to form, especially across SE Mass. Any low clouds/mist/drizzle early Monday will burn off and a gusty southwest wind takes over. There will be no front hung up this time. In fact Monday is the warmest day in Boston since October. Highs Monday will range from the 50s across the Cape, 60s over southern Bristol and southern Plymouth County, 70s along and north of route 44 in SE Mass to mid 70s in Boston and near 80 across the Merrimack Valley and southern NH.
Tuesday is mild too... mid to upper 60s, but showers start to work in by midday and and a soaking rain arrives in the afternoon and overnight. Unfortunately, for those wanting to see the "Blood Moon", I don't think we'll get much of a chance early Tuesday AM thanks to clouds moving in. http://earthsky.org/space/what-is-a-blood-moon-lunar-eclipses-2014-2015
That rain ends by predawn Wednesday, but so does the warmth as even 50 degrees will be a challenge to see both Wednesday and Thursday.
Right now, the next bout of rain looks to arrive Saturday with drier and relatively cool weather for Sunday and perhaps Marathon Monday. We'll iron out those details in the week to come.
Enjoy the mild weather and the rest of the weekend!
