Seabrook officer charged after assault caught on video

Posted: Updated:
SEABROOK, N.H. (WHDH) - A Seabrook police officer has been charged with assault on Thursday after a video showing a possible case of police brutality emerged on YouTube.

The video was from Nov. 2009 and showed a suspect, Michael Bergeron, being slammed into a concrete wall by three police officers.

Mark Richardson was on duty at the time of the assault and therefore could face an enhanced sentence of 2 to 5 years in prison or a $4,000 fine.

The video came to the department's attention in Jan. after it went viral. Bergeron apparently posted the video, saying that he has brain injuries from the incident.

Two of the officers seen in the video were placed on leave while the department investigated the incident.

Another charge was presented at the arraignment against Officer Adam Laurent, who allegedly pepper-sprayed the suspect in the video. He will not face criminal charges based on evidence presented in court.
