Woman's leg gets stuck between Red Line platform and train

DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) - A woman’s leg got stuck between the train and the platform at the JFK/UMass T stop during the morning commute on Thursday.

This is a story that you will see on just one station.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene at around 8:00 a.m. and had to pry her out.

Jasmine Clarke took the photos and sent them to 7News. She stayed with the woman, a complete stranger, until rescue workers came by.

"I wanted to stay. It was me and another lady that stayed with her. I just felt bad for the girl, you know, it was scary," Clarke said.

District Fire Chief Erik Pettaway described how firefighters used a handheld hydro ram with a piece of wood to move the train car away from the platform and free the woman.

"Very lucky because usually trains versus people aren't good or pretty," Pettaway said.

The woman was taken on away on a stretcher to Boston Medical Center with a knee injury, but was said to be in good spirits.

"It was reassuring when she made the joke getting on to the stretcher that she was in fact fine," Clarke said.
