RAYNHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -
A war veteran from Massachusetts was at Walter Reed Hospital last week when he got a surprise visit; his favorite baseball team stopped by.
Sgt. Brandon Korona, 22, was in Afghanistan last June when his convoy was hit by an IED. He said the players were very supportive.
“They're coming in, not just for you to see them, but to come and actually see you and talk to you, and to enjoy some time with soldiers,” Korona said.
The die-hard Red Sox fan said it was a great moment for him and the rest of the soldiers at the hospital.
"It was awesome. They came in. I was like a little kid. My eyes lit up," he said.
Korona even got to meet his favorite player, Dustin Pedroia.
“I immediately thanked him for coming. And he looked at me and said, no thank you for everything that you do. You can see in a couple of these pictures I'm just hanging out. I sat and talked with Pedroia for a solid five to 10 minutes. Along with Johnny Gomes. Lester was a very down-to-earth, soft-spoken guy,” Korona said.
