Malden company possibly linked to Back Bay fire

Posted: Updated:
MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) - New details emerged from the investigation into a fire in Boston's Back Bay that claimed the lives of two firefighters.

The building was boarded up in Back Bay and police moved to investigate a company in Malden called D&J Ironworks.

Boston police executed a search warrant at the small business in connection with the deadly Beacon Street fire.

Investigators announced last week that the fire started in a spark from welding work, and said that no permits had been pulled for the work being done and no fire department details were assigned to oversee the work.

Part of the investigation will look into what happened when the fire grew out of control and caused the deaths of Lt. Ed Walsh and firefighter Michael Kennedy.

Investigators said they would be extensive in their research.
