What a finish to the weekend! Blue skies kept the sunshine going all day long, allowing many towns to warm into the middle to upper 50s. While it’s only several degrees above the average, that early April sun can make quite the difference as it’s just as strong as the early September sun. In fact, if you spent a few hours outside doing yard work, hanging out on the ball field, or sitting in the sun at Fenway, I’m willing to bet it felt warmer than the 50s at times and if you didn’t use sunscreen, you have some color.
Clear skies continue tonight as temps slide back into the upper 20s in the suburbs to the upper 30s in Boston. Those mainly clear skies allow for a bright start Monday morning, however, clouds will increase Monday afternoon. Highs reach the lower to mid 50s at the coast, and near 60 inland.
Those increasing clouds foreshadow a soaking rain for all of us overnight Monday as 1.0-1.5″ drops on the area. Rain starts after the evening commute and is heaviest between midnight and 6:00AM Tuesday. With rivers and streams running on the high side thanks to last weekend’s deluge, we’ll watch for the potential for minor flooding to reoccur. In addition, poor drainage areas and urban areas may have issues with standing water early Tuesday morning, but those issues alleviate quickly by mid morning once the rain tapers. The saving grace with this system is the fact that it’s a quick hitter, in fact, most of the rain falls within 8-12 hours. Once the rain ends, with any breaks of sunshine arriving Tuesday afternoon, temperatures surge into the mid 60s.
Cool air rushes in for Wednesday as highs hold near 50, then we’re back to near or above 60 to end the week. All and all, I’d say we’re easing our way into Spring.
