Florida woman speaks out after nearly getting struck by car in CVS

Posted: Updated:
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WHDH) - Cameras captured a close call at a CVS in Florida, where a vehicle plowed through the front doors and narrowly missed an 80-year-old woman inside.

The woman, Adrienne Watkins, was seen on video looking at the candy aisle in front of the cash register when a Chevy Impala crashed through the front door, then stopped in the aisle next to her.

“I guess I bent over. I had just straightened up when the car went by me,” she said.

Watkins suffered from a few bumps and bruises and said she felt lucky to be alive, especially since she came so close to danger.

“The policeman came in the hospital and said, ‘If you had been out a foot further,’ that’s when I would have gotten hit,” Watkins said.

Police said the 84-year-old driver of the car had just backed into another car in the parking lot before putting her car in drive, and the reason is still unknown.

“She was very lucky and she is a very lovely person, and I know she didn’t do it on purpose at all. And we’re both very fortunate,” Watkins said.

Police said the driver has been cited and the store has about $65,000 of damage to repair.
