WALTHAM, Mass. (WHDH) - One person died Friday in an early morning fire in Waltham.

Flames broke out inside a multi-family home on Brown and Crescent streets. Investigators said the fire was mainly contained to one unit on the third floor. Crews have extinguished the flames.

A spokeswoman for the state Fire Marshal's office confirms the death of what appears to be an adult male. The name of the victim has not been released.

One person had to be rescued from an upper floor and the Red Cross, which responded to the scene, said 11 people were displaced.

Investigators said a cigarette may have ignited the fire.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
